The reason for this is that some individuals may develop a brown pigmentation of the colon when aloe products or other herbs, such as cascara sagrada, senna, rhubarb, frangula are used. Melanosis coli is the name for this brown coloration that is harmless and reversible. There is no medical significance of this darker color, and review of clinical data shows no evidence that Melanosis coli leads to more serious conditions in the colon.
